Joys of Womanhood

Photobucket

I've always thought Bridget Jones says it best when describing what we woman go through to maintain.

Being a woman is worse than being a farmer-there is so much harvesting and crop spraying to be done; legs to be waxed, underarms shaved, eyebrows plucked, feet pumiced, skin exfoliated and moisturized, spots cleansed, roots dyed, eyelashes tinted, nails filed, cellulite massaged, stomach muscles exercised. The whole performance is so highly tuned you only need to neglect it for a few days for the whole thing to go to seed. Sometimes I wonder what I would be like if left to revert to nature-with a full beard and handlebar mustache on each shin, Dennis Healey eyebrows, face a graveyard of dead skin cells, spots erupting, long curly fingernails like Struwwelpeter, blind as bat and stupid runt of species as no contact lenses, flabby body flobbering around. Ugh, ugh. Is it any wonder girls have no confidence?

~Bridget Jones~

From one woman to another I think we can relate perfectly, but I think we wouldn't have it any other way.

Fun in the Sun

So this past weekend I got a little R&R up at Bear Lake in northern Utah. I had no idea that a lake could be that big, blue and beautiful. If you haven't been, I highly suggest before the summer is over that you find your way up to that amazing place!

Most of our time was spent outdoors, at the beach, swimming in the lake, and playing games in a huge grassy field. I felt like a kid again. The days were warm, the water was clear and the sun felt so good shining down on us!

But spending quite a bit of time outdoors comes with a price. So whenever I head outdoors for an extended period of time I always use some sort of sunscreen to protect my skin from the harmful rays of the sun. The problem is most of us forget about our hairCheck Spelling. So by summers end our hair is damaged from the sun, water, and other elements that make our hair dry, damaged, and brittle.

There is a way to prevent this from happening. The product that I have found and fallen in love with is from Shwarzkopf's Bonacure line called Sun Guardian.

Sun Guardian is specially formulated to help refresh overstressed and damaged hair. It has UV filters in it to help protect hair from the suns damage. It is fortified with Aloe Vera and amino acids to help repair your hair's structure leaving it feeling shiny, healthy, and beautiful.

I used the shampoo and treatment all weekend to help protect my hair and I felt better knowing I wasn't only protecting my skin but my hair as well. Bonacure also carries a leave in spray conditioner that is a very lightweight formula to help moisturize your locks.
So the next time your going to be in the sun, don't only remember to protect your skin but your hair as well. Because your hair needs protection too!

If you have any questions regarding Bonacure Sun Guardian shampoo, treatment, or leave in spray please leave me a comment below!

My day job

So while I love to do on-location hair and make-up with my good friend Bev, I spend most of my time doing hair at Platinum Studio in Orem, Utah. I have been there for three and a half years and I absolutely love it! I honestly never feel like I am going to work because I truly love what I do. I feel very blessed to be able to have my "dream job".

One of the best parts of what I do would be my amazing clients. I love talking to and getting to know all of them. Hearing about their day to day lives, special events, or just talking about their up-coming plans for the weekend is what makes my day so fun and interesting!

So while getting to know my clientele I also get to use my creative side and customize cuts and colors for every client. Each of my clients has their own style, skin tone, and face shape that is unique to them. Obtaining that perfect customized cut and color is the other part of my job that is very rewarding.

I would love to get to know you and customize your cut and color! Below is my contact info-ask for BRETT! See you soon!!

Such a Tease

You know you are a true girl when you find that perfect something and know you just have to have it. It may be a new pair of shoes that would change your world and every outfit you wore with them. It could be a purse or handbag that feels like butter underneath your fingertips. Or you may find the perfect pair of skinny jeans that make your legs feel and look like a supermodel strolling down the runway.

But for most of us girls out there the most important accessory of all is our hair. And when you find that perfect color that goes flawlessly with you, you feel like you can conquer the world.

Awhile ago I found my new favorite trend for hair color.

TEASY HIGHLIGHTS

Many of us love going lighter for the summer. A little bit of highlighting and bam we feel ready for those long summer days and cool summer nights. The problem is Fall comes around and we quickly fall out of love with our highlights and want to go back to a darker more rich hair color for Winter. While this may be the trend it is not always the healthiest for our hair. The process of going from light to dark and dark to light season after season is a great equation for damaged and over processed hair.

TEASY HIGHLIGHTS are a great solution because it combines the best of both worlds. It gives the foundation of a darker hair color that is then diffused, melted or TEASED with a lighter color flowing out towards the ends of your hair. Also this is a great solution if you are wanting to go for a more rich color for Fall by letting those summer highlights grow out and transitioning slowing into that darker hair color without over processing or damaging your hair.

So if you are looking for that new favorite hair color to pair with those new shoes and fabulous pair of skinny jeans you might not need to look any further.

TEASY HIGHLIGHTS may be that next perfect thing that could change your world!

Spring Make-up

I love this time of year for a million reasons. But one of the reasons I love it most is for the fresh palette of colors I see at all the cosmetic stores. Everything is so bright and fresh and so opposite of the colors used for winter that I can't help but feel like a fat kid in the candy store wanting it all.

Unfortunately for me, like many of you, the pocket book doesn't reach that far deep. I have to pick and choose what I really want. I have gathered some of my favorite brands and looks for this spring. The prices vary for all budgets.

Something to keep in mind this spring when doing your make up is that it's okay to experiment with some of the bright colors that are out there. You can buy a bright eye shadow and make it a subtle or dramatic look by the amount of shadow you put on the brush and how much you layer it on the eye. The same rule applies for all make up from the cheeks to your lips. The amount applied can determine the look you are going for.

This spring there are the same pastels as usual, but they are deeper and richer hues. I picked a few of my favorites in the picture below as examples of the richness. MAC has some amazing new colors. If you are wanting to spend a bit less, try out Sonia Kashuk's line at target, another one of my favorites. If you aren't comfortable with doing a full shadow of these colors, keep in mind you can also wet a fine point brush and dip it into the color and use it as an eye liner, a trend being seen this spring.

Another fun thing for spring are the colors you wear on your cheeks to give that great glow. I love doing creme based blushes, like the Bobbi Brown Cheek Tint. It goes on so smooth and also gives a dewey look that is very fresh.

Lips, are one of my favorites to play up. One of the reasons being that one can just have a bit of eye make up on and make a dramatic statement with lips. Spring is a great time to showcase them. MAC always pulls through with amazing lip colors that stay on without smudging. I have to say that their color 'Girl About Town' is the equivalence of the red lip for winter. It is a perfect pop of pink and screams spring. I absolutely love it. If you are wanting to spend less on the lips there are other great options. The brand e.l.f. puts out great glosses and lip stains. A lip stain is perfect if you hate the feel of lipstick. Lip stains go on lightly and usually come with a gloss so that you can have the choice of matte or glossy. All e.l.f. products can be found at Target. Another great lip product by e.l.f. is their hypershine gloss that can be purchased for $1.00. Yes one dollar! No guilt can be associated with that.

I hope that these great make-up tips help you get into full swing for spring. If you have questions about make-up please feel free to leave your comments and I'd be happy to do a follow up question/answer post.

Lucious Locks

To start off the wedding season I couldn't have asked for a more perfect canvas to create a flowing yet timeless look for my bride Jenni.

She has the hair that every girl dreams of. Thick, long, shiny, and beautiful are all the words that came to mind when working with her hair.

For her special day I wanted to make sure that she felt like herself, but in a glamorized and sophisticated way.

I'm a big believer that on your wedding day you should be able to recognize yourself in the mirror instead of looking and seeing someone you barely recognize.

Too many brides out there think that the standard up-do is what they need for their wedding day.

I think that for your special occassion a key phrase to keep in mind is less is more.
By keeping that key point in mind you will feel the most beautiful and comfortable in your own skin.
